Building History

The Sisters of Saint Francis of Philadelphia established Saint Joseph Hospital #1 in Tacoma, WA, in 1891. It had 60 beds originally. By 1900, it started a nursing school program. This hospital operated unitl 1915, when it was replaced by a new facility on I Street between South 18th and South 19th streets.
