There were two missions called, "Mission de la Purisima Concepcion de Maria Santisima." The first mission was demolished by a large earthquake on 12/21/1812. This new complex was started in 04/23/1813. Mission de la Purisima Concepcion de Maria Santisima lay in ruins from at least 1845 until 1941, when, after archaeological surveys, reconstructions of six buildings were either completed or on the way to completion. According to the surveys, there were approximately 13 buildings composing the complex, including agricultural, residential, and industrial buildings. Each mission managed to create its own water system. This is the most completely reconstructed of all the missions in California, and the site was declared a State of California Historic Monument on 12/07/1941, the day of the Pearl Harbor attacks.

The Mission de la Purisima Concepcion de Maria Santisima Site was given the National Register number, 1978000775. The reconstructed Mission de la Purisima Concepcion de Maria Santisima was given the National Register number, 1970000147

Reconstruction work on the complex started in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
