Building History
The San Francisco architectural firm of Percy and Hamilton designed the second, ill-fated library on the Stanford University Campus.
Demolition
This building, like the nearby gymnasium, was destroyed in the 04/18/1906 earthquake that leveled much of the Bay Area. The only portion left standing of this mostly unreinforced masonry structure, was the dome in the building's center that was supported with steel beams. Nearly complete when the quake struck, the library was never used. Its site was later occupied by the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
