After the 1928 Davis and Davis Echo Park Branch Library was closed after the Sylmar Earthquake in 1971, this location was used as the branch until the completion of a new branch at 1410 West Temple Street in 1997.

This building on a secondary street was used from c. 1972-1997. Parking and access were considered bad at this "temporary" branch after the previous Echo Park library was declared unsafe from damage sustained by the 1971 Sylmar Earthquake.
