In Father Fermin de Lasuen founded Mission San Luis Rey on 06/13/1798, the 18th of the 21 Franciscan missions in California. Mission San Luis Rey de Francia had the greatest agriculural wealth of any of the California missions. The Mission maintained a herd of 50,000 cattle and had a workforce of 3,000 Native American farm workers.
