Abraham Lincoln set aside some of the Yosemite acreage in 1864 as a national trust; 1,200 acres of Yosemite land became the first national park in 1890.

In 2008, the National Park Service contracted with the Delaware North Companies Parks and Resorts to operate what was a small city in Yosemite National Park complete with 1,667 guest rooms, 25 Food and Beverage units, 19 retail locations.
