Shields Library is located on the UC Davis Campus between Peter J. Shields Avenue and Hutchison Drive.

The University of California, Davis, named their main library in honor of Peter J. Shields (1862-1962) in 1973. Shields was an influential lawyer, politician and judge who lobbied the California State Legislature for the funding of a UC Campus in the city of Davis. Kitchen and Hunt made an addition to the library at the University of California, Davis, 1955. The new West Wing opened on 04/02/1990, designed by Simon Martin-Vegue Winkelstein Morris, Architects of San Francisco, CA; others involved in its design and construction included: Structural and Civil Engineer, Rutherford and Chekene; Mechanical Engineer, Guttman and MacRitchie; Electrical and Lighting Engineer, The Engineering Enterprise; Landscape Architects, Meacham O'Brien; Building Contractor, Campbell Construction Company.
