Building Notes

The Orpheum Theatre #2, located at 1631 Ellis Street, opened on 01/21/1907, replacing an earlier Orpheum destroyed by the Earthquake and Fire of 04/18/1906. It was known as the "Orpheum" for a short time, from 1907-1909, when the Orpheum Theatre #3 opened at 147 O'Farrell Street in San Francisco, CA, on 04/19/1909.

Alteration

The Orpheum Theatre #2 underwent remodeling in 1909-1910, becoming the Garrick Theatre. The Garrick Theatre, a relatively common name for American theatrical facilities in the 19th and early 20th centuries, was named in honor of David Garrick (1717-1779), the highly influential English actor, playwright, theatre manager and producer.

Demolition

The Orpheum #2/Garrick Theatre, located next to the Princess/Ellis Theatre, was torn down in the early-1970’s.
