Many theatres in the US were named to honor David Garrick (1717-1779), an English actor, theatrical producer and playwright renowned in 18th-century London. He owned a portion of the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, the cornerstone of the West End Theatre District of Covent Garden in Westminster, London.
