On the University of California, Davis, Campus, West Quad and Peter J. Shields Avenue. The tract is bounded by North Quad on the north, West Quad on the east, California Avenue on the west and Shields Avenue on the south.

Architect Hays configured the Animal Science Building (later Hart Hall) in an L-shape, with an angled entrance on its southeast corner. In 2007, Hart Hall housed approximately seven departments as well as two media labs.

Designed by a long-time faculty member of the Department of Architecture, University of California, Berkeley, this early UC Davis building was done in the Spanish Colonial Revivial Style; it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, level of significance: State.

UC Davis, Hart Hall was renovated in 1991-1992.
