Restaurateur Claude Rouas established his Provencal eatery. Auberge du Soleil, in 1981 in California's Napa Valley Wine Country. Great acclaim came to the enterprise, encouraging Rouas and a partner, Robert Harmon, to expand the business to include a hotel (in 1985) and, later, a spa.
In recent years, the interior designer Suzanne Tucker supervised a renovation of the Auberge du Soleil. A renovation occurred in 2011 to the main dining room and its terrace synchronozed with the inn's 30th anniversary.
