This was one of several investment apartment houses architect Richard Neutra (1892-1970) designed for landlords seeking to make added income from students, staff and faculty from nearby UCLA.
The Kelton Apartments won an Honor Award from the Southern California Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 01/1947. The Awards Committee consisted of George B. Allison, Chair, Pierpont Davis, John Rex, and Byron Tharaldson; this committee invited John W. Root, FAIA, of Burnham and Root, Architects, Chicago, IL, Pietro Belluschi, Architect, Portland, OR, and Ernest Born, Architect, San Francisco, CA, to act as judges for the awards program that was halted between the years 1938-1946.
