One of two locations housing server equipment for computers on the UW Campus in 2006, this facility and one at 4545 15th Avenue NE were at their limits of either cooling capacity (as was the case with the former building) or power usage (the case at 4545 15th Avenue NE). A decision was made to spend $25 million to develop three data centers for the campus, one at the existing 4545 15th Avenue facility, one in the recently acquired Safeco Tower, and one, rented space within a data center in Tukwila, WA. The data center space at 3737 University Way was to be used for other purposes.
