Building History

The Japan Building was dedicated 07/21/1909.

Some items displayed in the Japan Pavilion were sold to the public. An advertisement in the Seattle Daily Times noted on 10/12/1909, that all items unsold would be returned to Japan on 10/16/1909. (See "Extraordinary Announcement advertisement," Seattle Daily Times, 10/12/1909, p. 8.)

Building Notes

A California newspaper published this short note about the Japanese pavilion in 01/1909: "Shintaro Ohashi, vice-chairman of the Tokio Chamber of Commerce and one of the leading publishers of Japan, will exploit the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition in a large number of Japanese publications. Japan also proposes to make a fine display showing the progress of the country at the Pacific fair." (See untitled item, Santa Cruz Sentinel, 01/14/1909, p. 8.)
