He had acquired more than 600 acres to the west of Los Angeles, CA, intent on creating a housing sub-division for the wealthy; at the time, Los Angeles was rapidly expanding to the west along Wilshire Boulevard, with the construction of Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Westwood Village, and Santa Monica, CA;
