William Henry Crocker (1861–1937), President (beginning in 1893) of the Crocker-Anglo Bank, and his wife, Ethel Sperry Crocker, built this large estate as their country house in 1912-1915. A daughter, Helen Crocker Russell, sold the house and moved to a new residence in the Carmel Highlands. New Place later became the clubhouse for the exclusive Burlingame Country Club to which it is adjacent.
