Building History
The Grover Cleveland Elementary School has undergone three building campaigns. The first, wood-frame school opened in 1909. A more fire-proof brick school was completed in 1914. The second iteration sustained significant damage in the 1933 Long Beach Earthquake, and became one of 27 schools in Pasadena that were replaced during the New Deal. This building, designed by architect Robert Henry Ainsworth (1895-1970), was completed using funds provided by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in 1935.
