The local Catholic diocese broke ground for this church in the Spring of 1951, and celebrated its first Masses, 08/15/1952; formal dedication occurred 10/12/1952; the Albert Canfield House had formerly occupied the property, a residence with a chapel that provided the first house of worship for this congregation in 1927. As the congregation grew it occupied space in the Glendale American Legion Hall at 343 West Arden Avenue. The first church, completed by December 1928, was a simple wood-frame building built on property facing Central Avenue; its cost was approximately $10,000. By contrast, the second church cost $360,000 to erect in 1951.
