Building History

The Seattle architectural firm of Bebb and Gould designed this first branch of the Young Men's Christian Association in Seattle's University District. Construction began in 1924 and concluded by the next year. The University District Herald reported on 02/24/1922: "Carl F. Gould of the University of Washington architecture department will draw the plans for the new Y.M.C.A. building which is to be built at Forty-second and Fifteenth Northeast this summer. Prof. Gould recently made a trip to New York to study the plans of the national Y.M.C.A. committee. The cost of the structure is estimated at $100,000and ground will be broken about June 19."
