This hospital had its origins as the medical facility serving Camp Fremont in 1917-1918; this earlier hospital became heavily used during the 1918 Influenza Pandemic that curtailed many of the base's activities. In 2006, this hospital had 308 beds, intended to serve 150 long-term patients, 100 intermediate care dementia patients, and 50 homeless veterans form the community.
