Tourists frequented this tavern located at the top of Mount Lowe after traveling up the the 5000-foot Mount Lowe Funicular Railway. This railway was a favorite attraction for visitors in Southern California, as evidenced by the ample number of post cards remaining of the railroad and adjacent eateries and hotels.

The Alpine Tavern burned in 1936.
