Following the success of his Space Needle design at the Seattle World's Fair of 1962, Graham went on to design hotels with revolving rooftop restaurants to maximize view. He designed one in Honolulu and this one. In this project, Graham was to build a 64-room hotel (with its twirling restaurant on top) as the terminus of a cable car line that would stretch 3.5 miles to a shopping center, hotel and motel cluster. This larger retail/lodging area was also to have been designed by Graham.
