Stanley S. Sayres (1896-1956) gained fame in the Puget Sound area for his successful career as a hydroplane racer. Driving his hydroplane, Slo-mo-shun IV, he established a world speed record (160.3235 mph) for hydroplanes on 06/26/1950. To earn a living to support his racing career, Sayres was President of the American Automobile Company, a Chrysler dealership, the operator of an auto parts store, and the owner of a clothing firm, the Jen-Cel-Lite Corporation.
