This wooden building was located on the site of a salvaged ship, Winward, Seattle landowner and railroad proprietor, James Colman, had towed back to his dock in Seattle, WA. The Colman Building #1, a wooden office structure, was erected over the remains of this ship. After the 1889 Fire, it was replaced by the Colman Building #2, that was designed by two architects--Stephen Meany and August Tidemand--and erected over a number of years.
Burned in the Great Fire of 1889; replaced by the Colman Block #2.
