Thomas W. Prosch (1850-1915) and his wife, Virginia (1851-1915), lived at this address with their five children c. 1888. Prosch, like his father, Charles Prosch (1822-1913) was a newspaper publisher; Thomas was also an influential figure around town, serving as Secretary of the Seattle Chamber of Commerce, c. 1900. In that year, Prosch lived in a crowded house inhabited by his elderly parents, four daughters, one son and two sons-in-law. Prosch also owned the building next door at 613 9th Avenue ("Prosch's Hall" built in 1886), which became the first US Assay Office in Seattle from 1898-1932.
