Building History
This multipurpose building replaced a one-story structure that housed the UW Visitor's Center only. This building, designed to contain 64,000 square feet, had a budget of $17.8 million; it accommodated a new Visitors Center, the Office of Admissions Welcome Center, and, primarily, the UW Educational Outreach. architects, Ledcor / Perkins and Will aimed to achieve a LEED Silver Rating for the building, one of the earliest on the UW Campus to do so. Construction was set to begin in late 2005, but work on the site did not actually commence until 2006.
Building Notes
The first home of the Educational Outreach Department burned in 12/2002; as of 04/2008, this project remained stalled. Ten years later, the building site, across from Schmitz Hall, on the southeast corner of Campus Parkway and University Way, remained vacant.
