Building History
Architect Mark Mack spent approximately 18 months designing the house. On his firm's web site, Mack described the house and its conception: "Located in the arid desert on the outskirts of Reno, this residence required a solution for a house isolated in a stark landscape. The basic configuration of the house is that of an ancient urban courtyard house. In order to suit this type to a rural setting, the house sits on a landscaped plinth; porticos and punctured walls enclose an open plan house configuration. An oversized trellis serves as a mediator between the harsh environment and the domesticity of the interior. Hovering over disparate parts of the house, it serves both as a symbol and as a shading device for the outdoor rooms." (See Mack Architects, "Stremmel Residence," accessed 02/16/2018.)
Robert Flack was the Project Architect for the Stremmel House; Tim Sakamoto and Gloria Lee composed the Project Team.
