The Professorville National Historic District was bounded approximately by Embarcadero Road, Addison Avenue, Emerson Street and Cowper Street.

An area noted for its large houses occupied by many professors at nearby Stanford University; it featured a number of simple, brown shingle dwellings, comparable to those found in faculty areas of Berkeley.
