This California Historic Landmark was named for Robert Livermore, (b. England 1799-d. Livermore, 1858), an early Anglo settler to what became the Livermore Valley in Contra Costa County, CA; he came to Monterey, CA, in 1822, and married into the local Mexican landowning class in 1830; he purchased his large agricultural estate, Rancho las Positas, in 1835, and built his dwelling soon thereafter;

A state monument to Robert Livermore is considered to be California Historic Landmark Number 241;
