Building Notes

Designed for the Richmond Unified Elementary School District, the Mira Vista Elementary School received a Merit Award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA), 1954 for school design; the Mira Vista School was very highly acclaimed and published c. 1950, and was one of many school commissions (secondary and university-level) that the Warnecke firm did during the mid-twentieth century; orignally, the school complex had four components, a main, L-shaped building, and three linear classroom blocks that step up its hillside site. Keeping within CA traditions of secondary school design set by Ernest Kump, Jr., (1911-1999) and others, the school had covered, exterior corridors.
