The newspaperman Samuel Shorey founded this bookstore at a Third Avenue and James Street location. In 1939, John W. Todd, a recent immigrant from North Dakota, purchased the store's inventory. It moved to a second location at Third Avenue and Marion Street and stayed there until 1975.
