The first apartment complex built in the Green Communities Initiative, a $550 million drive to build 8,500 ecologically-sound, affordable, apartment units; Seattle-based charitable organizations, including the Bullitt Foundation, Paul G. Allen Foundation, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, were involved in the initiative; other founding partners included the Natural Resources Defense Council and U.S. Green Building Council; this six-story complex was the first erected within the initative, a 50-unit apartment building located in the South Lake Union District of Seattle, WA; Denny Park Apartments cost $10.7 million to build, $5.5 million in tax credit investment offered by various lenders and $2.1 million from the City of Seattle's Office of Housing;
