Building History

The very busy Los Angeles architect Welton D. Becket (1902-1969) designed the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in the mid-1950s. Ruth P. Shellhorn (19099-2006) produced the landscape plan around the building; Becket worked with Shellhorn on many commissions, including this building, several Bullock's Department Stores and the Prudential Insurance Company of America Western Home Office in Los Angeles, CA.

Building Notes

The 3,000-seat Santa Monica Civic Auditorium hosted the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Oscar Awards from 04/17/1961 until 04/10/1968.
