The Golden Bear operated for a long time as a Greek restaurant, owned by George Nikis; he operated a thriving nightclub in the building booking progressive music acts in the 1960s, such as the Doors, Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix; Richard and Charles Babiracki purchased the club in 1974 and operated it until January 1986, booking the same cutting-edge acts; the club closed in 1986 due to the owners'inability to meet more strict seismic codes;

It was demolished c. 01/1986;
