Building History

The drawings for this building were titled "Alterations to Store Bldg for Seattle Repertory Playhouse, 4041-4045 University Way." Arthur Loveless was the architect and the sheet was dated 10/02/1930. Lester Paul Fey (1901-1980) served as the draftsman on this drawing, Sheet #103.

Building Notes

The mosaic over the entrance was executed by the Northwest painter, Mark Tobey (1890-1976).

Alteration

The Playhouse Theatre was remodeled in 1966-1967 by Seattle architecture firm, Nelsen, Sabin and Verey.

It also was completely renovated in 2007-2008 by LMN Architects of Seattle, WA. Aside from its brick walls, little of its historic character remained after this reconstruction work.
