Byers designed this house for the wealthy son of the mining magnate and citrus farmer, Lewis Leonard Bradbury, Sr., who died in 1892; (Bradbury commissioned Sumner P. Hunt and George H. Wyman to design the famous Bradbury Building [1889-1893] in downtown Los Angeles, CA) Byers made his name designing large period revival houses in and around Santa Monica, Spanish Colonial Revival, like this residence, being a specialty;
