Ukrainian-born Professor Anatole G. Mazour (1900-1982), taught Russian Civilization and History at Stanford University between 1947-1965. He commissioned the San Francisco architect, Ernest Born (1898-1992) to design this residence for himself and his second wife, Josephine Lurie, whom he married in 1944. The Mazours had two children, Alexander and Natasha.

The Mazour House was located next door to the notable Usonian Hanna House (1936-1937) designed for the Stanford Professor of Education, Paul R. Hanna (1902-1988), and his wife, Jean Shuman Hanna (1902-1987), by Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959).
