Building History

Dr. Henry B. Stehman (d. 02/17/1918 in Pasadena, CA) founded the La Vina Sanatorium in Altadena, CA. He got his medical degree from the Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, PA, in 1877. (See "Los Angeles County," California State Journal of Medicine, vol. XVI, no. 4, 04/1918, p. 222.)

Building Notes

Architect Myron Hunt's second wife, Virginia Pease, served on the La Vina Sanatorium's Board of Directors in the 1930s.

Demolition

The La Vina Sanatorium was demolished to make way for La Vina Estates, a residential tract with 272 houses, built in the 1990s.
