According to the Bard College web site: "The Bertelsmann Campus Center, which opened in 1999, houses several facilities and is a central meeting place on campus. The center’s 30,000 square feet contain the college bookstore and post office; administrative offices; Down the Road Café; a 100-seat cinema; lounge areas; public e-mail terminals and computer lab; and meeting and gallery space." Two teachers at Bard, Heinz Bertelsmann, Professor of International Relations from 1947-1977 and Elizabeth (Lilo) Bertelsmann, a teacher of German and photographer, donated the funds to enable the construction of the campus center.
