Building History

The Stanford Gardens tract by developer Joseph Eichler was on sale in 1950. A large advertisement in the San Francisco Chronicle said this about the Stanford Gardens houses: "Boldly imaginative in design, dramatic in its use of redwood, brick, glass, and color...its huge outdoor living terrace with barbecue merely a continuation of the spacious living room, separated only by a wall of glass." This ad described houses with radiant heat, 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths, redwood interiors and exteriors, two-car garages, and 1,650 square feet. Cost was set at $21,000. Eichler included the name of the interior designer Nancy Porter who could provide "quality furnishings, chosen for their expert styling and exciting colors...." (See "Of course It's an Eichler Home!" advertisement, San Francisco Chronicle, World of Leisiure Section, 04/16/1950, p. 5.)
