Built for the head of the immense Pope-Talbot Lumber Company, George A. Pope, Sr., (1864-1942); Andrew Jackson Pope (1820-1878) began the firm during the Gold Rush, and his son, George A. Pope, Sr., greatly expanded the size of its operations; his son, George A. Pope, Jr., (1901-1979) also ran the Pope Family lumber business and lived in Hillsborough, CA, (at 735 Bromfield Road) in a well-known house designed by William W. Wurster (1895-1973).
