This was the estate of the head of the Bank of Italy, later to become Bank of America; Giannini was born in San Jose, CA, 05/06/1870, and died 06/03/1949 in San Mateo, CA; he founded the San Francisco-based Bank of Italy, an important lender for home mortgages and business loans in California, in 10/1904; Giannini gained the reputation for being the banker for the common man; he had more relaxed lending policies and longer hours than his competitors; his house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places #99001181;
