The East San Jose Branch Library, was financed, in part, with a $7,000 grant from the Carnegie Foundation; opening in 1908, the library was in operation in 2005, the oldest facility in the San Jose system; in 1990, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places;
The East San Jose Branch Library was threatened with demolition in 1974, but neighborhood groups gathered public support for its continued use;
