Dr. Cephas Little Bard (1843-1902) and his brother, Thomas Robert Bard (1841-1915) erected this hospital as a memorial to their mother.
A quintessential Mission Revival Style building, the Bard Memorial Hospital, Ventura, CA, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, level of significance: Local. It featured covered terraces on two floors on its south oceanside facade, and a first-floor covered porch sheltering the front entrance on the eastern Fir Street facade. A three-story bell tower marked the building's southeastern corner.
The building was renovated from a hospital to an office building in 1983;
