Brown's Theatre had a relatively short life; it opened in 1914, changed its name to the Fruitvale Theatre, and closed in 1924; in 1978, the building resumed operations as a theatre, called the "Fruitvale Playhouse"; additionally, there were two other theatres in the vicinity known as the "New Fruitvale" or "Fruitvale" Theatres.

The theatre and some surrounding buildings were demolished to provide room for a new Wendy's restaurant;
