Fort Moore

Construction began on Fort Moore after the cessation of hostilities between American Army and Marine units and native Californios and Mexicanos in 1847. This fort, though never completed, was dedicated on 07/04/1847, named for Captain Benjamin D. Moore, killed in the Battle of San Pascual against Californio troops. The military left Fort Moore in 1848 and the fort was decommissioned in 1853. A cemetery, a beer hall and residence of Mary Banning, wife of California pioneer, Phineas Banning, later occupied the fort's hilltop location.

Demolished.
