This new 84-foot lighthouse was built just after the construction of the new U.S. Army military prison at Alcatraz in 1909-1911; it was located to the south of the first lighthouse; it had a large house designed to accommodate three lightkeepers and their families; the Fresnel lens became automated 11/22/1963;
