The Oxnard Brothers, Robert (b. 1853) and Henry Thomas (b. 1860), established the American Beet Sugar Company in Oxnard, CA, modestly named for themselves; in 1906, Oxnard called itself "Sugar City," the factory at Chino was one of the earliest large-scale refineries in CA. An 1891 newspaper ad called the Oxnard Brothers factory the largest beet sugar factory and refinery in the world.
