Alphonzo E. Bell, Sr (1875-1947) developed the Bel-Air tract in the 1920s and also founded this country club to entertain his wealthy tract's residents. He commissioned the architect Carleton M. Winslow, Sr., (1876–1946) to design the club house. William P. Bell and George C. Thomas, Jr., laid out the club's 18-hole, par 70, 6,491-yard golf course in 1926. The club also maintained tennis courts on its property in the heart of Lower Bel-Air.
