Street Directions: Using California Interstate Route 5, locate Stockton, California. From Stockton take Highway 120 east to Don Pedro Reservoir. Don Pedro Dam is located on the Tuolumne River, 40 miles east of Modesto, California. Dam Coordinates: Latitude- 37 degrees 42'06" and Longitude- 120 Degrees 25'16"

Work on this dam began 06/25/1921; it was the tallest dam in the world (284 feet) when constructed in 1922; it served three purposes for the Modesto Irrigation District and the Turlock Irrigation District: flood control, water storage and power production; an additional benefit was recreational use of the new reservoir created.
